NOVI, Mich., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Hino Trucks held their first ever National Service Skills Competition at their training facility in Novi, Michigan. The Skills Competition brings together Hino dealer service technicians from across the country that have achieved Master Elite Technician designation and puts them head-to-head against each other in varying simulated service-related situations.

The Master Elite Technician designation represents the highest certification a Hino truck technician can attain. To reach this advanced status, technicians must successfully complete fourteen Hino Training Courses and all six Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium/Heavy Duty Truck test series certifications. The ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Test Series exams include: Diesel Engines, Drive Trains, Brakes, Suspension and Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. Technicians have 3 possible levels of recognition to achieve: Premier, Platinum and Master Elite.

"Our service technicians are the best in the truck business," stated George Daniels, Vice President, Service Operations for Hino Trucks. "Proper training gives the Hino technician the 'Fix it Right the First Time' attitude and our new 16,950 sq. ft. state-of-the art training facility next to our headquarters provides us the opportunity to expand our training offerings. Overall, the Hino program for the Professional Hino Technician goes beyond standard technical training and is matched by no other OEM in the United States." With over 175 dealers in their network, Hino also maintains a training center facility in Ontario, California to round out comprehensive regional support.

After completing one of the industry's most comprehensive training programs, the technician is ready to tackle the ultimate challenge - the annual Hino Honors National Skills Competition. This year's Hino Master Elite Technicians included in the competition were:

Daniel Burstein Rush Truck Center - El Paso, TX John Wiggins Hino of Wichita, KS Michael Willougby Rush Truck Center - Oklahoma City, OK Greg Zubek Chicago Mack Sales & Service - Summit, IL

After some fierce competition during the two hour contest, Greg Zubek of Chicago Mack Sales and Service pulled ahead as the ultimate winner. Greg is a Journeyman Technician and has been a team member with Chicago Mack for over 5 years. "It is my belief that factory training and knowing the product are the keys to making the repair right the first time. Competitions like this show that going the extra mile is rewarding. This will motivate technicians to get involved with ASE programs and dealers will send more techs for Hino Training," said Zubek.

Investigators found the body badly mangled, but could not identify the victim because he was not carrying any identification, police say.

Police say they believe the man was already lying in the middle of the street before he was hit by the pick-up truck.

Baer Field hosts Gold Cup 100 International Truck Parade will feature ... - FortWayne.com

Posted: 06 Aug 2009 07:34 AM PDT

Baer Field Speedway will host the season's biggest event Friday with the 12th annual Gold Cup, presented by International Truck Development and Technology Center.

The evening will feature a five-division program topped off by the Gold Cup 100 for the nationally sanctioned Superpro Late Model Series.

The Gold Cup 100 will be the third appearance for the Superpro cars this season.

Last year, Fort Wayne's Tommy Cook won the Gold Cup en route to his second consecutive Superpro title. This year has not been as good for Cook, as he is not in the top10 in points. Illinois driver Tom Smith swept the first two Baer Field races and leads the points over Angola's Mike Kugler and Jason Dietsch, from Spartan, Mich.

Joining the Superpro Late Models will be the only 2009 appearance for the O'Reilly Auto Parts USA Modifieds.

More than 30 of the best asphalt Modifieds in the nation are expected for the event. Scott Tomasik enters this weekend racing as the USA points leader ahead of Steve Foster, with Terri Popielarz in third.

A full program of Baer Field Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks will complete the racing card. The show will also feature the International Truck Parade, which will showcase International vehicles and will be highlighted by a rare public appearance of the locally designed MaxxPro Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle and the Hammer Down transformer.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. Friday, with practice at 3 p.m., spectator gates at 3:30 p.m., qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Admission is $18 adults, free ages under 12. Rain date for the event is Saturday.

Baer Field Speedway is located at 4331 Winters Road, one mile south of Fort Wayne International Airport off Bluffton Road. Call 478-7223 or www.baerfieldspeedway.net for more information.

Local auto dealers praise 'cash for clunkers', await payments - Green Bay Press-Gazette

Posted: 06 Aug 2009 07:55 AM PDT

(2 of 3)

LeMieux Toyota in Ashwaubenon has suspended the program, however, the dealership would not comment on the decision.

Individual dealers must give the rebates and are later reimbursed by the government, Klein said. He has yet to be reimbursed nearly $100,000, he said.

"We need to get paid that money to continue operating," he said. "Some dealers have half a million dollars out there."

Bill Sepic, president of the Wisconsin Automobile & Truck Dealers Association, said the best the association has heard about reimbursements is "soon."

"To my knowledge, I don't believe there's been any payout yet across the country," he said.

However, Sepic said the program is reaching what it aimed to accomplish.

"The best part about the plan is that it's assisting and generating sales," he said. "The dealers are pleased with the sales, the customers are pleased with the incentives, so it has jumpstarted activity, which it was intended to do. So from that perspective, it's been super."

With the program's funding in question, however, the Senate will vote today on whether to approve an additional $2 billion to keep the program alive.

That decision is crucial for car dealers, said Dave Denil, of Denil Wall Auto Mall in Green Bay.

"That's the thing that we hope to see happen," he said. "My concern is that we may have already exceeded that $1 billion that they initially allocated and that's why we're not having those vouchers paid."

The House has already approved the extension, the amount President Barack Obama says is necessary to meet a surging demand that would otherwise deplete the program by Friday.

Denil is also awaiting a considerable amount of money from the government, but said the program has worked well for him.

"Response from the public, however, has been better than we expected," he said. "It's accomplishing its purpose in terms of stimulating the factories to producing more cars, suppliers to supply more parts, transportation companies to haul more parts and the banks to loan out more money. That part of the stimulation, as well as for the auto dealers, has been very successful."
