LINDEN, Mich., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Green Bridge Technologies International, Inc. (Pink Sheets: GRBT - News), announced today that the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Vapor Technologies has tested 6 prototype muffler systems that utilize its multiple encapsulated vortexes technology on its diesel engine test cell. These tests take the basic technology being developed for fuel vaporization and apply it to the exhaust stage of the internal combustion engine. The tests were conducted at the Company's Auburn, MI laboratory.

The unique encapsulated vortexes muffler design provided significantly better sound attenuation of the exhaust stream than the stock muffler. Additionally the prototype muffler is smaller, lighter and will be considerably less expensive to manufacture than a conventional muffler. This proprietary design also recorded lower back pressure than the stock muffler, which should aid in the overall increase of engine efficiency, performance and power output.

Currently tests are being conducted on a gasoline powered vehicle. Initial results show increased power with reduced sound levels under steady state operation and a pleasing tone during acceleration.

The muffler market includes the 250 million vehicles on the road in the US today and this number increases on average by 4 million per year. Worldwide vehicle production this year has exceeded 48.7 million cars and over 6 million commercial vehicles, heavy trucks, buses and coaches.

"I was astounded that replacing the stock muffler with the prototype design attenuated the sound of our diesel test engine to a point where normal conversation was possible just a few feet from the exhaust outlet," stated Leonard Baxter, CEO and President of Green Bridge Technologies International, Inc. "We are also currently testing our prototypes on gas engine vehicles and working towards a production design that we can introduce to the automotive and truck market for both OEM and aftermarket sales sometime in 2010".

MAN to pay nearly €151 million in corruption fines - Investors Business Daily

Posted: 10 Dec 2009 06:49 AM PST

BERLIN (AP) — Germany's MAN SE has agreed to pay nearly €151 million ($223 million) in fines following an investigation of corruption, the truck maker and judicial authorities said Thursday.

Munich prosecutors in May launched a probe of alleged bribery, saying they suspected a "system to boost sales of trucks and buses" was in place in Germany.

Prosecutors in Munich, where the company is based, imposed fines of €75.3 million on the company's trucks division and €75.3 million on its turbo division.

MAN said its units agreed to the fines and the decision "brings to an end the investigations against the companies of the MAN Group on suspicion of ... corruption."

The Munich state court and prosecutors confirmed the fines. Both they and the company said that investigations of individuals suspected of corruption will continue.

MAN said the agreement was possible because its management "took extensive measures to clarify the matter within the company, working closely with the public prosecution authorities."

MAN, which is around 30 percent held by Europe's largest automotive group, Volkswagen AG, itself offered an amnesty to employees willing to provide information and created a new compliance department.

Prosecutors said the fine for the truck division, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG, was a punishment for the management's violation of supervisory obligations. They said in a statement that bribes were paid "in numerous cases."

The MAN Turbo AG unit was fined over bribes paid to win orders between 2004 and 2008 with the involvement or knowledge of a former head of the unit, the Munich state court said.

The turbo unit makes compressors, gas and steam turbines.

MAN has seen a number of senior officials resign in the past weeks, including former Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson. No reason was given for his departure, and he has not been accused of wrongdoing.

The head of the truck division, Anton Weinmann, stepped down last week in what he said was a move to ease a managerial fresh start.

MAN shares were down nearly 0.6 percent at €52.23 in Frankfurt afternoon trading.

Mt. Washington Blog - AccuWeather.com

Posted: 10 Dec 2009 06:06 AM PST

As promised yesterday, here are some pictures from my most recent shift on the mountain. I'll start with the pictures that I took. I only had one opportunity to take pictures and that was on Saturday when we broke out of the fog for a few hours in the morning. We had just received a significant amount of rain the day before, but plenty of snow was still hanging on from the over 24 inches that fell from the storm just one week prior to taking these pictures.

Here is a view of Mount Adams and Mount Madison, taken from the service road of the Mount Washington Auto Road:

This photo shows the East Snowfields, on the eastern slope of the mountain. They filled in pretty nicely from that storm I just mentioned. In fact, if I had been able to find time and the weather would have cooperated, I could have gotten my first backcountry skiing of the season here this week:

If you look closely near the right center of the above picture, you'll see a person. That's my fellow observer Mike. He went out for a quick hike and decided to see what the East Fields (as we refer to them) had to offer. Here's a closeup of him heading back up:

With temperatures finally turning colder, Wildcat Ski Area (right across the valley from Mount Washington) was able to do some snowmaking:

The rest of the pictures that I want to share with you were taken by intern on my shift, Will (more of his pictures can be found here). He has a MUCH better camera than I, and he knows how to use it. He snapped some good photos of our shift change last Wednesday, which was one of the first snowy drives up the Auto Road of the winter season. Here is a picture taken on a part of the road known as 'Cow Pasture' at about 7 miles up the 8 mile road. We are in the Observatory's 4WD van and we are following the Observatory's truck:

Here's a shot of the Sherman Adams Building, the building we're housed in, from just below the summit cone:

Here are the vehicles after arriving on the summit:

On the same day as the pictures I took (Saturday) one of the red fox that often shows up on the summit on nice days made an appearance. I didn't manage to capture and worthwhile photos of her (yes, I know it could be a he), but Will did:

Saving the best for last, here is a night exposure that Will did:

That's all I have for this shift. As I mentioned yesterday, I will be on vacation through the rest of the month and I probably won't be able to do any updates until at least the 30th.

I hope you and your families have a safe and happy holiday season! Talk to you in a few weeks!

Detroit News names its Car and Truck of the Year: A diesel Audi and an ... - MLive.com

Ford won over a lot of consumers in 2009 as the only Detroit automaker not to accept a federal bailout, and today it's won a yearly award: The Detroit News named the Ford Transit Connect it's 2009 Truck of the Year.

The Transit Connect might look a bit odd (see: European), but it's already carved out a unique market position as a go-to vehicle for small businesses.

DetNews, Dec. 10: The 2010 Ford Transit Connect has no competition, at least not yet.

...With its sliding second-row doors and easily configurable shell, it has nearly limitless flexibility. Ford has worked with a few outfitters to provide businesses with the ability to customize each van to suit individual needs.

But wait, the Transit Connect "truck" is also winning awards as the year's best van. So, which is it?

The Transit Connect "drives like a car, works like a van and is engineered to be as tough as a truck," Chief Engineer Stevens said at the time of its launch.

The Ford F-150 won the award last year and the F-450 won two years ago.

Despite, selling at a record pace, Ford's Fusion didn't even make the News' top five.

2010-audi-a3-tdi.jpgAudi's 2010 A3 TDIInstead, the 2010 Audi A3 TDI notched top honors as the Detroit News Car of the Year, following up on its Green Car of the Year award last week at the L.A. Auto Show.

In a world of growing hybrids and the soon-to-arrive electrics, one of the oldest types of engines still continues to push the globe forward: the diesel.

But Audi AG's little 2-liter direct injection turbo diesel is not much like anything Rudolf's namesake might remember. This little four-banger cranks out 230 pound-feet of driver-friendly torque. If the world really wants to get over itself and start to select cars with significantly better fuel efficiency and drivable power, it's going to have to realize the technology is already here.

That marks the second straight year the News honored a foreign automaker with the award; The Mazda6 took home the prize last year.

Check out the Detroit News for other cars and trucks that didn't quite make the cut.
