Tampa fire crews battle two fires - St. Petersburg Times Posted: 06 Dec 2009 08:48 AM PST Dong-Phuong Nguye, Staff Writer TAMPA — Tampa Firefighters were busy this morning battling two blazes: one at a vacant house, the other outside an auto service shop. According to reports, about 5:37 a.m., firefighters were called to a vacant house on fire at 7901 N Orleans Avenue in the Lowry Park area. Firefighters saw smoke and flames shooting from the back of the house. It took about 20 minutes to control the fire, authorities said, which heavily damaged the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was injured and a damage estimate has not been determined. About 40 minutes later, firefighters were called to Hoops Auto Service, 6306 N Nebraska Avenue, to find a panel truck on fire, as well as a parade float that had been parked nearby. The truck was filled with tires and there were also piles of tires surrounding it. Fire crews knocked down the fire and protected the surrounding properties using water and flame suppressing foam. It took about 20 minutes to control the flames. Investigators believe someone intentionally set the panel truck on fire, which also caused the flames to spread to a float belonging to the Spirit Cigar City Krewe, reports state. The truck was destroyed and the parade float was moderately damaged. [Last modified: Dec 06, 2009 11:45 AM] This content has passed through fivefilters.org. |
